I passed my AANPC board on the first try.
I bought this book after reading all the positive reviews. Although, it is true, there are well over several errors, I was able to noticed them and get my own accurate information. If you solely rely on what the book should or shouldn’t tell you, this is not for you. You will need practice experience, and everything you were taught in graduate school.
I prepared in as little as 5 weeks. Repeated over 80% of the practice questions to refresh my knowledge and test my understanding of concepts and critical thinking.
The board exam is hard. It will test your critical thinking skills, analytical skills, and understanding of everything you have learned from graduate school. This is not for the memorizer, dump all in a cheating piece of paper faint of heart. Normal labs are given to you. So don’t waist time on any of that information. Do know your simple basic labs. That would save you time when reading the exam questions.
Take your time and make sure you understand everything in this book. It is very well presented that makes it easy to follow and comprehend.
Again, make sure you know the stuff, knowing is when You can answer a question without having to look for the answer in the question. This way on the board exam you will be confident in yourself and very well prepared to take the board and pass on the first try.

original Digital access code that came with the book for some reason did not work. The code was covered by protective coating when I received it and appeared brand new. I contacted the seller and they sent me a new activation code quickly that now works with ExamPrepConnect, so good customer service on the sellers end.

ExamPrepConnect is a nice digital tool that works on PC, tablet or smart phones. It sets a study plan based on the date you want to take the boards exam. The lessons within the ExamPrepConnect are sections of the book, so you may read the book through the digital access and it will track your progress. There are practice questions for each chapter, flash cards and study games.
The Leik book itself is paperback, but unlike the 3rd Leik edition the 4th edition has colored pictures which is definitely an improvement, especially when going through dermatology. The Leik book has a detailed review but does not give an overwhelming amount off information. Leik is organized very well with each system broken down into chapters and within those chapters it has danger signals, disease review, exam tips and clinical pearls. My school chose to use the Fitzgerald’s book to prep students for boards, but I did not like this book since the quiz questions come before the reading in the chapters and the reading for each topic is very long and gives you an overload of information you will likely forget.

Overall, if you are looking for a review book for FNP boards exam I would highly recommend the Leik book with digital access. Best to buy the book at the beginning of the last semester of FNP school and use it throughout that last semester.

If you’re looking for a study guide that is easy to read and doesn’t overwhelm you with unnecessary details, then this guide is definitely worth considering. The use of digital codes to access four timed exam simulations was a game changer for me – it gave me the confidence I needed to tackle the real exam .

One thing I appreciated about this guide was the use of colored pictures, which helped keep me engaged during long study sessions. And of course, practice is always essential when it comes to exam preparation, and this guide delivers on that front as well. Remember it’s on you, practice, practice, and more practice.
While there are some minor errors in this book, they won’t be significant enough to cause you to fail your exam. So don’t let those small issues discourage you from using this guide as a valuable tool in your exam prep.

Overall, I highly recommend this study guide as a valuable resource for anyone looking to pass their exam. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater – this guide has a lot of useful information and resources that can help you succeed :)!!!.

This book is of low quality. Many questions in the practice test sessions are confusing or incomplete. Online access is very tricky that sometimes it does not work. However, the lessons in the book are helpful

  5. Vi

This study guide fully prepares you for FNP boards exam. The exam prep connect allows you to put in your exam date and creates a study plan that meets your specific timeline. Easy to read and tests your comprehension after each module. Highly recommend!

I love this book. It comes straight to the point what you need to learn. I would recommend the book over the flash card one because the flash card one only has practice questions. If you want to learn and study more for both practice question and material,
    You need this book.

Loved the review. Felt that between the app and book (material is near identical) that there was a lot of flexibility in how I could study- at home with my book or in a long car ride on the app- the information was presented where I wasn’t overwhelmed and felt far more confident in my ability to be an NP.

BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SPRINGER PUBLISHER, HIRE BETTER EDITORS. As shown in the picture, 90 F is a hypothermic temp. I literally caught myself second guessing everything I ever knew about basic vital signs. There was another part which I didn’t photograph that talked about 3C-4C above normal body temp but then just converted Celsius to Fahrenheit. So it read 3C-4C (37.4F- 39.2F) which makes no sense 98.6F+37.4F is not equal to 37C +3C …

There was a 20 tax associated upon arrival

Okay, I understand why this book has so many great reviews because it is a very helpful tool to study for the exam. It consolidates the information in an organized fashion. However there are soooo many errors and conflicting information in this book it has me worried and insecure about taking this exam. Makes me wonder what type of editing was done on this book and doesn’t author care that there are so many errors. I hope she is working on correcting these errors typos and conflicting information because this ruins an otherwise amazing study tool for the NP exam

The Leik review provided exactly what I needed to pass my FNP-C boards on the first try. You won’t regret this purchase!
